Andrea Gómez Cervantes is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Sociology at the University of Kansas. She specializes in international migration, families, social inequality, race and ethnicity, gender, health, and Latino/a sociology. Andrea received her M.A. in sociology at the University of Kansas and B.S. from Grand Valley State University.
In her dissertation book project, Inflexible Illegality, Andrea investigates the immigration processes and social integration of Indigenous (Maya, Mixteco and Tlapaneco) and non-Indigenous Latino/a mixed-status families in the Midwest. Andrea’s research has been funded by the National Science Foundation, the Ford Foundation, the American Sociological Association Minority Fellowship Program, Sociologist for Women in Society, and the Institute for Policy and Social Research and the Department of Sociology at the University of Kansas.
